Festival of Friends by Tim Walker

BBC Small Groups Bible Study

One of the hit shows in the late 80’s and early 90’s was Cheers, the title song , sang about a place where everyone knows your name. but is that all you want out of your friendships and relationships, most likely not. We have been wired for relationships and how should friendships with other believers look like. Paul concludes his letter with some very interesting thoughts on his friends that worked and lived with him. There are some really great insights that we can learn and grow in as friends…

Prayer: Out of the Closet into the World by Tim Walker

Lately Tim Tebow of the Denver Bronco’s has gotten a lot of attention about his Christian faith and the fact that he is very open about it. The other fact is that he has helped his team get into the playoffs and took over from the main starting quarterback. One thing we can take from his example is that his walk and talk are very closely related and influences his job and passion, playing football. Paul wants followers of Jesus to be passionate about their life but it gets its fuel from prayer that affects our private as well our public life…

A Timely Gift by Tim Walker

A Timely Gift - Christmas | photo: CreationSwap.com

We live in a time when we wonder if God has truly cared or provided for us. As we take note in the arrival of the wise men/astrologers of the east who came to visit the birth of a new king in a foreign land, we find that God used these gentile men to bring gifts that would make away of provision for Jesus and his parents to escape the wrath of a tyrant named King Herod. some times we need to take a step back and realize Gods provision for us in our past as well in our present.

We live in a day and age where finding good workers is a big challenge. A lot of people live with a sense of entitlement, minimal work in and big pay, so this can cause frustration to the owners and employers as well to the employees. Paul gives us a challenge to view our roles (whether we be the boss or the employee) from the vantage that we are serving Jesus first and our earthly realm second. It can have a dramatic affect in how we value our roles as well it lifts us up with a sense of dignity to the role of work.

The Home Makeover Edition by Tim Walker

The Home Makeover Edition

One of the things we can realize here in North America, is that the family as we know it is under a lot of strain and pressure. To many of the stats are showing us the breakdown in the traditional family and the stats also show us that single parent homes and common law settings are still not providing the help kids need to grow up with. Paul invites us to be subversive in our lifestyle in the home that allows everyone to be valued and affirmed but also a way to get along with out it causing a lot of headaches and unnecessary hardships…

Whether we like it or not we face images & messages that come from our culture to either consume more, or live under the comfort of the banner of military might, or be willing to exploit the economy to our benefit. How then does Jesus want us to live in such a culture? Can it be possible that we can live differently but be a radical difference to our culture around us?

Neither Nor: Pauls Transforming Moment by Spencer Boersma

transformation photo creationswap.com

Colossians 3:5-11 Paul was a social revolutionary. He opposed his own people, the Jews, in order to follow Christ’s call to welcome all people into God’s redemption. However, as he was doing that, he also opposed the most powerful man in his society, Caesar, whose empire was causing brutality throughout the world to women, foreigners, and the poor.

Paul in this passage calls for the end of language and actions that perpetuate Caesar’s idolatrous way of life and look to the vision of a higher dignity of life in the image of the creator. Thus Paul says, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all in all.

Hidden Revealed: The Depth of Christ Hidden in Plain Sight by Spencer Boersma

Jesus Revealed

How often do we look at the Cross and see the same old Jesus we have always known? Often the story of Jesus gets retold in an over-simplified and digestible way to the point that Jesus, the beauty and scandal of who he is and became, gets reduced to routine. We often make Christ boring. Paul refers to us as "hidden in Christ" and "revealed" with him in his death and resurrection. What does this mean? What is hidden yet revealed? What does it mean that Jesus is our life?

Sermon: Freedom To Live by Tim Walker

Freedom in Christ - creationswap.com

A classic scene near the end of the movie of Braveheart the story of William Wallaces stand against English tyranny, is that he is strapped down to a table and being tortured to death. Wallace makes one final cry to his friends and foes “Freedom!”. We long to have freedom and in today’s text, Paul is telling this young church, don’t go back to bondage, Jesus gave you freedom, walk in and avoid anything that would plunge you back into a life of slavery of rules and regulations that provide no relief to your spiritual life.

Colossians 2: 8-15 – “Accept no substitutes”. Buy genuine parts not inferior knock offs, can be heard in a lot of advertising these days. Yet we live in a day where we have a smorgasbord of religious thought and alternative spirituality realities, where does Jesus fit into the mix? Today’s text Paul will challenge his young church to make sure nothing replaces Jesus or don’t try to think Jesus was enough, He was completely sufficient at what he did at the cross and what his life brings to every follower of him.

A Prayerful Encouragement to Stand United by Tim Walker

United as One | creationswap.com

Colossians 2: 1-7 by Tim Walker – After 9/11, you notice a lot of bumper stickers that said Untied we Stand, and it had the picture of the Canadian and USA flags. For quite awhile that provided a lot of encouragement and comrade among our two nations. Paul wants to inform this new work of faith, that despite the winds of deception and false teaching, they are holding their ground and they need to continue to do so for the future. As we look at this next section, ask yourself how grounded am I for the storms that may come against me, but remember its not you who is doing the work, but Jesus!

Thankful Even Though He Suffers by Tim Walker

Freedom Fighters - 165,000 Christians were killed because of their faith last year...

Apparently, 165, 000 Christians were martyred or died due to their faith in God last year. That is an astonishing statistic, we here in North America, might get named called and poked fun at, but rarely do we die for our faith. Paul models a hope and a joy in the midst of suffering for being a spokesperson for Jesus. But the key to the whole thing, is knowing that Jesus is in the life of the believer, so what hope do you have?

Let Me Pray For You by Tim Walker

What Is Prayer - How To Pray

Its often said we talk a lot about prayer but do we actually do it? We pray when we are in trouble, but when the crisis passes, we can often slip into our old habits. The apostle Paul models a prayer for a relatively healthy church, and as we can see, its an encouragement to you and I that no one is immune to being prayed for. We all need it we all like receiving a prayer, so lets explore some of the key issues that Paul prayed for a church he had never met, it might surprise you to hear what he suggests…

SERMON: Looking to the Future with Expectancy Part 1L Hope for the Future by Tim Walker – Matthew 24: 35 – 25: 13 We live in a day and age, that we so desperately want to know what the future will bring us. But Jesus wasn’t about to drop any hints on his possible return and the establishing of His Kingdom rule here on planet earth. Reality is, it will happen, you wont ever know and so you might as well stop guessing. Only one person knows is the Father, and he decides it. So People get ready there’s a train a coming, but don’t bet on the time of its arrival – just be ready!

Sermon: Its The Beginning of the End by Tim Walker

SERMON: Its The Beginning of the End by Tim Walker – Matthew 24: 29 – 34…
One of the more difficult things at looking at potential end times passages, is all the possible ways to interpret a text. Stay in the context and don’t force a possible idea onto a passage otherwise you can make a passage say what you want. Jesus will answer the 2nd question, when will your Kingdom come into position. It has nothing to do with the 2nd coming of Jesus, remember the disciples didn’t get the idea that Jesus was about to die,let alone, there had never been any talk about a 2nd return. With this understanding lets see how Jesus answers this second question…
