We live in a day and age where leadership continues to be highly suspect, you would think the church would be free from that scrutiny but unfortunately we are not. But leaders and followers are given some guidelines in how we should be responding to one another from the Word. Can I truly submit to others, we live in a day and age where we do need to submit to authority all around us. Our nature desperately tries to fight against it, we always want to be number one and in control of our destiny. We all at times start out with great intentions to get in shape or go on a diet or I want to serve others, and we get a good start then we slow down, and eventually stop. Today as we look at 3 more one anothers’, the real challenge is if I want to do these 3, I need to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, if not I will slow and stop with good intentions but never get it fully done. Qualities of Community cont. Part 4 of the Community Series by Tim Walker – today we want to look at 3 more of the “one another” passages, Encourage, build Up and pray. We long to be in community but one of the things we may struggle with is the role you and I must play. Its not a one shot deal, its intentional and its sometimes hard work, but in the long run the pay off is quality relationships with one another. Lets take and look at how we can develop these 3 in our lives and within the community of faith…
Love, love, love we like to sing about it, dream about it, but it’s a whole different thing to live it out in our world and within the context of where we work, play and even worship. Howard Hendricks has said “you can impress people from a distance, but you can only impact them close up.” And so Jesus challenges us to love one another, not according the worlds standard but according to His lifestyle and teaching. Can it be done? Only with us depending on Him and the power of the Holy Spirit.
We all need community and Jesus model a new way of doing community that was not filled with more rules but more so out of a relationship founded in the love of God, speaking in a way that built others up and not tearing them down. It was to be a place of freedom and it was the means of creating a sense of anticipation of what God would do with Jesus and his followers. The church of today needs to be a place of freedom, love and place that cant wait to see what God will do in our midst…. click to listen…
