Father’s day is a day to reflect on fatherhood, and fatherhood, like all of life, is inherently religious. What is the religious significance of fathers?

Why does the God of the Bible, a God beyond all created things, identify himself as a father? Feminists object to this imagery because it excludes women, while patriarchal Christians embrace it as it conforms to there gender sensibilities.

However, God seems to be more strategic than this. Scripture as no problem seeing God as a mother or feminine, but sees a redemptive purpose in declaring God to be “Our Father”: a father unlike any father, a father to all the fatherless…
